Allow Me Wear My Colours!

Oh colours, I love colours. I love them bright and loud, bold and beautiful. I see colour as a gateway for people to express themselves as they feel in that moment. But here i have a roadblock, I find myself in a society that has called each colour by its name and given it a sex. Blue for boys, red for boys, pink for girls, gold for girls and so on.
Very often in Nigeria, people would move mad at you unprovoked for wearing what they have termed "woman's colour". It is hilarious isn't it? Well welcome to Nigeria, where the not so bright in mind share unsocilicited advice and end it with the phrase "my opinions tho". My dear, I do hope you choke on those opinions of yours over your next cup of coffee, my opinion tho.

I am grateful for bold iconic men breaking glass ceilings and shattering social construct as they constantly drip and style in fashionable attires slaying Pink, Red, Purple, Yellow and Gold in the most unconventional ways. Men like Multiple time BBN host, Ebuka Obi-Uchenndu, Denola Grey, Adebayo Oke-Lawal and most recently, Enioluwa Adeoluwa.

You come to the Timeline every now and then to scream "Toxic masculinity" and complain how unaffectionate your husbands and sons are, but you forget that is you you shackle's them with Do's and Don't. From asking them as young boys not to cry to barring them from expressing themselves in colours.

True though.......the rate at which toxic masculinity is being exhibiting in West Africa is quite alarming but I'm glad people are starting to break barriers and change what they'd tag "norms" or "being a real woman."
